Welcome to the “Harmony in Voids” wallpaper design challenge, tailored for first-year architecture students. This competition encourages you to delve into the beauty of basic shapes, voids, and rhythmic patterns, aiming to create an elegant wallpaper design for a 8x 10 feet that transforms an interior space of a living room.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES

Basic Shapes Exploration:

  • Begin with an exploration of fundamental geometric shapes like circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles
  • Experiment with variations in size, arrangement, and orientation to create a visually captivating composition

Incorporating Voids:

  • Integrate voids strategically within the design to add depth and interest.
  • Consider how negative space contributes to the overall aesthetic and balance of the wallpaper

Rhythmic Patterns:

  • Establish a rhythmic pattern guiding the viewer’s eye across the wallpaper 
  • Explore repetition and variation of elements to create a sense of movement and continuity.

Colour Palette:

  • Choose a harmonious colour palette complementing the intended intenor space 
  • Esperiment with shades, tones, and gradients to enhance the visual appeal of the wallpaper

Materiality and Texture:

  • Simulate materiality and texture within the design using visual cues
  • Consider bow the illusion of texture elevates the overall tactile experience of the wallpaper

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Design Concept:

  • Provide a brief description of the concept behind your wallpaper design.
  • Explain the inspiration and significance of the chosen basic shapes and voids.

Renderings and Mock-ups:

  • Submit high-quality renderings or mock-ups of the wallpaper design in a living room setup..
  • Present the wallpaper design in 1:500 scale with dimensions marked in mm.

Colour Palette Explanation:

  • Include a description of the chosen colour palette and its relationship to the intended interior space.
  • Explain how the colours contribute to the mood and atmosphere through a mood board-(SHEET SIZE-A2)

No of Sheets:

  1. Sheet 1 Concept sheet (A2)
  2. Sheet 2 Final wallpaper design with dimensions in mm with a scale of 1:500(A2)
  3. Sheet 3-Include one and two point perspective views of the wallpaper design in a living space (A2).

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Creativity and Conceptual Clarity:

  • Evaluate the creativity and clarity of the conceptual approach to basic shapes, voids, and patterns

Visual Harmony and Rhythm:

  • Assess the ability to create visual harmony and a rhythmic pattern that engages the viewer.

Colour Palette Suitability:

  • Consider how well the chosen colour palette complements and enhances the intended interior space.
